Basil Leon Malott

September 10, 1927 - April 21, 2022

Basil “Leon” Malott, age 94 of Brookville, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022. He was born on Sept. 10, 1927 in Howard County, Indiana to the late Basil Malott and Sylvia (Kendall) Parker. His father’s life tragically ended from a fire, before his birth. When Leon was 7, his mother remarried, Herbert Parker, who had 2 young sons and the family moved to Ohio. He began farming around 16 and was a farmer all his life. Leon’s wife, Waneta was an important help with the farming, along with his children. He was a long time member of Salem Church of the Brethren. Leon was former member of the Phillipsburg Rotary Club and also active with the National Farm Organization. He enjoyed spending time in Florida in the winter months, playing cards, shuffleboard, bicycling, bowling and reading. He is survived by his daughter: Peggy Malott, sons: Rodney Malott, Stanley Malott, grandchildren: Michael Malott, Nathan Malott, Natalie (Lewis) Kurtz, Ryan (Angel) Malott, great grandchildren: Rozalyn and Gabriel Malott, Ava Bucher, Wyatt and Ellie Kurtz, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his loving care-givers: Debbie Malott, Colleen Roberts, Connie McCoy and Darshana Quinn and her family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years: Waneta Faye (Kauffman) Malott, parents, step-father: Herbert Parker, brother: Herbert Malott, sister: Virginia VanDyke and step-brothers: Robert and Edward Parker. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Salem Church of the Brethren (6037 Phillipsburg-Union Rd.) with Pastor Trent Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Church of the Brethren or Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. The Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood is handling arrangements.
