Rev. George L. Sidwell Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Rev. George Lincoln Sidwell, Jr., age 96, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, March 4 at Wesley Glen Retirement Community in Columbus, Ohio. He will be sorely missed by his survivors: children, Donna Rae and Fernando DeGracia of Richfield, MN, David Sidwell of Dayton, OH, and M. Kathryn Jimenez of Dublin, OH, ten grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren, as well as his sister, Norma, and James Dew. George was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Rae (Leonard) Sidwell, parents George and Freda (Masterson) Sidwell, sisters Hildreth Sidwell and Loretta Lou Padelford, and son George Lincoln Sidwell III. George lived his life by his favorite psalm, Psalm 23. He sincerely followed the Lord as his shepherd and trusted all his needs to Him. His pastures were not always green, but he had a way of finding still waters in the midst of adversity and leading others there as well. Whether it was serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, leading small rural churches after the war, navigating the difficult conditions as a missionary for 12 years in post-war Korea, or simply guiding friends, relatives, and parishioners through prayer, he restored many souls in God’s name. His faith and spirit of service sustained many through his time serving many Methodist churches, including North Broadway United Methodist Church and Englewood United Methodist Church, even after he retired. He also founded Northmont Fish, a food bank that has expanded to include other resources for Englewood and the surrounding community. He was the one who, while waiting for his own surgery, prayed for others around him. He was the one his children and grandchildren turned to for extra prayers, prayers that produced minor miracles. He knew no fear because he relied on the rod and the staff of his faith to sustain him,even in the most difficult circumstances. He was caregiver, companion, and support for his beloved wife, Edna Rae, while she suffered the ravages of cancer over 13 years. Their shared faith sustained them through the valley of her death and helped him face the same challenge again when his son, Linc, passed away from the same cancer. He saw his cup as more than half full. He saw it as running over with blessings. To him, each person he met, each opportunity to help was a blessing. Even after retiring from a long career of service, he continued to volunteer in ministry and service to the poor. Goodness and mercy did follow him all the days of his life. There is no doubt that he will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ***Memorial Services are pending***
