Howard E. “Gene” Haines, age 93 of Laura, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene retired from Autobahn Volkswagon as a mechanic with over 35 years of service. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg. Gene enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, playing euchre and playing the banjo, guitar and mandolin. He is survived by his children: Sharon (Donald) Burkett, David (Rhonda) Haines, grandchildren: Jennifer (Donnie) Bryant, Randal (Carissa) Haines, Brian (Rosemary) Burkett, Renee (Ryan) Heitzman, Keith (Tisha) Burkett, Ryan Haines, great grandchildren: Kailee, Austin, Adelyn, Emersyn, Brayden, Valen, Cassidy, Carter, Emily, Alexa, brother-in-law: John Dunker, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Martha (Dunker) Haines, parents: Howard A. and Leone (Holladay) Haines and sisters: Doris Hensley and Janet Knife. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) with Pastor Linda Kruse officiating. Interment will follow the service at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens in Brookville. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
