Jean Kay Brusven Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jean Kay (Svendsbye) Brusven, age 78 of Englewood, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. She was born in Williston, ND. Jean was a graduate of McGregor High in North Dakota and Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she earned a BA degree in Business Education. After graduating from college, Jean worked as an executive secretary and then as a Hospital Unit Secretary. Following the birth of her daughter, Jean took fourteen years off from the business world to be a stay-at-home mom for her two children. Upon returning to the work force, Jean spent fourteen years in the health industry primarily in medical billing with her last position being an account executive for the Miami Valley Hospital Family Health Center. Throughout her life, Jean always had an interest in working with youth. She was very active in working with church Sunday School programs both as an officer and teacher and assisting with Catechism instruction. In her later years, she developed and coordinated a free church sponsored tutoring program for early elementary grade students in reading and mathematics. She also volunteered part time as a teachers aid at a Dayton Public Schools elementary school. The family wishes to thank the staff at Englewood Health and Rehab for the care they provided Jean as well as the care and support provided by Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Anders and Gudrun (Birkelo) Svendsbye, six sisters, three brothers, six brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and three nephews. She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Marlowe D. Brusven, daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer (Shane) Harlow, son and daughter-in-law: Eric (Keri) Brusven, grandsons: Jordan Harlow, Aiden Brusven, Reid Brusven, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood). The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be held privately at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens in Brookville.
